Jason Heikenfeld, Erik Kreit (a recent UC PhD graduate), and scientists from Marine Biology Lab, Air Force Research Labs, and Army Research Labs, published a paper that was featured on the cover of the highly regarded Interface, published by the Journal of the Royal Society. http://rsif.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/10/78.toc . Larry Mazlak, an EECS Emeritus Professor, continues to have his work in computational linguistics featured in national publications like the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/06/opinion/sunday/can-computers-be-funny.html?hp&_r=2&
Dr. Ali Minai, was recently was awarded a $1,000,000 Integrated NSF Support Promoting Interdisciplinary Research and Education (or the INSPIRE award) for his project, “The Hunting of the Spark: A Systematic Study of Natural Creativity in HumanNetworks.” http://www.uc.edu/news/NR.aspx?id=16353
John Franco will be a lecturer at the 2nd SAT/SMT Summer School to be held in Trento, Italy, June 17-20, 2012. Jason Heikenfeld gave invited talks on electronic paper at the International Display Workshops in Nagoya Japan and the Texas Nanotechnology.
Donglu Shi will be giving an invited talk in the "Next Generation Biomaterials" symposium at the Materials Science and Technology 2012 Conference & Exhibition.

Frank Zhou’s 2012 summer research project has been selected for funding by the University Research Council (URC). He has been awarded $8,000 to support his research in novel cross-layer modeling, performance analysis, optimization and design for next generation wireless communication systems.
